After his older brother Armand took the reins at the Zildjian company, Robert Zildjian decided it was time to strike out on his own. So in 1981, armed with years of experience and a great knowledge of the trade, he founded his own cymbal manufacturing company named Sabian - a name that derives from the names of his three children, Sally, Bill and Andy (SaBiAn). Since then, Sabian has become one of the world's leading cymbal brands and enjoys a great reputation as one of the 'big four' of cymbal manufacturing, along with Zildjian, Paiste and Meinl.

Sabian HH series

The HH (Hand-Hammered) series of cymbals is a line of high-end cymbals, cast from Sabian's special B20 bronze alloy (which contains 20% tin and traces of silver). These cymbals are crafted by the master artisans at Sabian and tend to have a dark, atmospheric sound and a mid to low pitch - hence the Vintage Dark classification that Sabian has given the series. As all HH cymbals are individually hand-hammered, and the power and placement of each hammer stroke will vary, no two cymbals sound exactly alike. This gives the HH series a personal feel that many drummers across the globe have come to love.

Sabian HH 20-inch Leopard Ride cymbal

This 20-inch Leopard Ride certainly sports an unusual look. Its unlathed top is dotted with the hammer marks that look like the spots on a leopard - hence the name. This relatively heavy cymbal delivers penetrating stick response that will cut through the mix admirably, and it has a dark sound. Finally, the large bell is as cutting and loud as you could possibly want.
