Forty years ago Ibanez started designing their own guitars and bass guitars. One of these models was the legendary and very popular Black Eagle. In order to celebrate the 40th anniversary of this bass, the 2609B has been reissued as a limited edition. Famous bass players who played this solid body include Krist Novoselic (Nirvana) and Ronald Le Pread (Commodores).
Ibanez 2609B Black Eagle: looks & sound
The remarkable Ibanez bass guitar was based on the legendary J-model but is different in some important areas. For instance, the bass features curved horns at both cutaways, a pickguard with flying eagle, and custom position markers in the maple fretboard. Furthermore, the body is made of mahogany, which makes the basic sound of this Black Eagle a bit creamier than that of similar basses. The maple neck and fretboard add just the right amount of bite.
Pickups and striking details
For the amplification of the 2609B, Ibanez selected two historically correct Ibanez Super J single coils that provide a traditional, warm amplified sound, thanks to their alnico magnets. The Black Eagle is fitted with a fixed bridge and classic machine heads for just that bit of extra stability and sustain. A classic '70s-style Ibanez logo on the headstock is the icing on the cake.
