In collaboration with Bobby Shew, Yamaha has developed a special trumped mouthpiece: the MP TR Shew Lead S. This mouthpiece gives high notes an extra clear and bright character, making it particularly suited for melodies.

And that's how Yamaha's Signature series came to fruition: special mouthpieces for copper horn instruments, named after the musician involved with developing its specific characteristics that are most important to his or her playing.

Bobby Shew

The career of the trumpet player Bobby Shew began during his youth in the club circuit where he performed night after night. Eventually Shew developed into a talented jazz trumpeter and became know as a lead player in the jazz scene. He recorded a number of critically acclaimed albums, receiving a Grammy nomination in 1980 for 'Outstanding in his Field,' and the Jazz Album of the Year award in 1983 for "Heavy Company."
