Many drummers cut a port hole into their bass drum resonant head. This provides an ideal place for a microphone to amplify your drum with, and it allows the air to escape from the drum when you strike it with a beater, which alters the sound of your bass drum a bit. It delivers less boom and more punch, which is often preferable in live situations where you need to be amplified and mixed through a PA system.
However, cutting into it can negatively affect the integrity of the drumhead, as it can cause tearing. Luckily, Gibraltar has these SC-GPHP-4B 4-inch port hole protectors. Simply take the two parts, each on one side of the drumhead, and snap them together. This makes the area around the hole less fragile and ensure the material won't rip or tear.

Het is even een gedoe om het gat goed te knippen. Makkelijkste is om de binnenkant van de female-ring aan te houden als maat. Eenmaal geplaatst ziet het er goed uit, en geen risico meer op scheuren!
Volg de instructies, zo is het makkelijk te installeren. Het is net groot genoeg om de grotere microfoons (beta52) nog door te kunnen duwen. Ik zou de 5" ideaal vinden, maar de 6" lijkt me een beetje groot.

Op zich tevreden omdat het doet wat het hoort te doen. Echter heb ik heel veel moeite gehad met het gat in het vel maken wat niet helemaal goed verliep waardoor de ring aan de buitenkant niet paste. Maar dit ligt natuurlijk aan mijzelf en niet aan het product. Daarom 4 sterren.
