As well as traditional keyboard-based MIDI, there is an alternative method to the production process. In 1988, Akai launched the MPC60, the original pad controller, which gave R&B and rap genres an enormous boost. With their MPC Studio Black studio controller, Akai breathes new life into this concept and adds modern specifications as well. The original MPC60 was equipped with just 768 KB of memory, while the new MPC Studio Black comes with an impressive 7 GB of samples!
Features of the Akai MPC Studio Black
Essentially, the MPC is a USB MIDI controller, and the included software (MPC Software) is responsible for the sounds. The great thing about this device is that it's all you need to produce a complete track. Adding expression to your performance is easy with the velocity-sensitive pads with aftertouch. With 128 tracks per sequence at your fingertips, you can make arrangements as broad as you like. The clear 360x96-pixel display keeps you up to date on all the details. A special added bonus in the MPC Studio is its compact size, which means it's portable and fits easily in your backpack!
