The Lava Cable Retro Coil offers all the advantages of a coiled instrument cable without any of the down-sides that these cables used to bring to the table. At first glance, you'll notice that both ends of the cable feature an uncoiled section, which may seem like a minor detail, but it sure is practical when plugging the cable into an instrument or amplifier. Weight-wise it's remarkably light - especially for a coiled cable - which improves playing comfort. Everything about the Retro Coil's design seems to emanate a focus on user-friendliness. Retro Coil: construction

The unique cable jacket is remarkably flexible, durable and exceedingly lightweight. Underneath the outer jacket is a layer of PVC that was specially designed to counteract the noise that coiled cables were infamous for. Furthermore, external noise is countered by the highly effective spiral shield. At its core, this cable consists of 99.99% oxygen-free copper, which results in a remarkably low capacitance. Finally, there's the plugs, made by the renowned G&H company. There's a very simple reason that Lava Cable uses another company's plugs, and that's because they felt that the Show Savers' quality and durability was unrivalled.

Retro Coil: high-tech retro mojo

Besides looking good, coiled instrument cables are also highly practical. They offer excellent freedom of movement, and as they coil up, they won't get in the way when you move closer to your amplifier. However, the original design had a few flaws. Older coiled cables are quite heavy, for instance, because of the materials used to create the flexible jacket. Moreover, the high capacitance of the cable's core as a result of its coiled shape resulted in a loss of high frequencies. Luckily, the Lava Cable Retro Coil does not suffer from these issues. All the down-sides that used to mar the coiled cable's reputation have been swept off the table. The result is an excellent coiled instrument cable with an incomparably favourable signal/noise ratio.
