In the 1950s, Gretsch introduced a drum kit that would achieve a legendary status: the Broadkaster. In 2014, a modern take on the old classic series was issued. The Anniversary Sparkle 14 x 5-inch snare drum is part of the rejuvenated Gretsch Broadkaster series and is available separately to complement your Broadkaster shell set. The 3-ply shell of the Broadkaster snare drum is made of maple and poplar, resulting in a warm, full sound.

Standard Build Broadkaster snare drum: optimal attack

The shell of this Broadkaster snare drum has a 30-degree bearing edge that is angled towards the interior - a technique that ensures a wide tonal range and maximises attack and projection. The thin hybrid shell is reinforced by means of an interior-ply scarf joint. The 3mm-thick 302 double-flanged hoops of the snare are nearly identical to the Stick Chopper hoops from the 1950s, but are made from a more rugged type of steel, resulting in a more open sound than a die-cast hoop would deliver. Additionally, the 302 hoops add more ambient overtones to the overall sound of the snare.

Past and present

Broadkaster Standard Build snare drums are defined by a characteristic combination of authentic looks and modern elements, such as hardware. This 14 x 5-inch snare is equipped with eight Gretsch Standard lugs and a Gretsch Lightning throw-off. The interior of the shell is fitted with a redesigned, numbered label, while the exterior is adorned with the familiar copper Gretsch USA Round Badge. The snare has a Nitron wrap with a luscious Anniversary Sparkle finish, and comes with two Remo drumheads: a Coated Ambassador batter head and a Remo Ambassador Hazy resonant head.
