The Tascam US-1200 is a solid USB audio interface with an on-board DSP processor. Equipped with six inputs and two outputs, this sound card offers more than enough I/O for many home and project studios. All the inputs can be monitored without latency via the DSP mixer, which can be set to two different modes, for music production or podcasting purposes.

US-1200: inputs and outputs

The Tascam US-1200 can be installed in a 19-inch rack. All input connectors are located at the front of the interface, so it's easy to plug in your audio sources. The two balanced jack inputs are ideal for connecting equipment with a line signal, such as keyboards, samplers and synths. Thanks to a switch, the inputs are also suitable for instruments with a high impedance like guitars or bass guitars. Additionally, the US-1200 features four high-grade microphone preamplifiers, which take your recordings to an astonishing quality level.

DSP mixer

All the inputs of the Tascam US-1200 can be monitored via an internal DSP mixer, which can be set to two different modes. The Multi-track mode is suited for music production and enables you to adjust the input volume and the monitor mix independently. The Stereo Mix mode is great for Internet streaming, live broadcasts and video editing applications, and allows you to add a signal from your computer to the mix. The final mix is then sent back to the PC for streaming or recording purposes.

DSP effects

In addition to a DSP mixer, the Tascam audio interface also offers on-board DSP effects that you can use to edit the incoming sound in real-time. DSP effects featured on the US-1200 are reverb, dynamics and an equalizer. The reverb effect does not affect the recording itself, but allows you to add a little reverb to, for instance, some vocals.
