If you're looking for a drum set with a nicely emphasised low end and great attack, then this Starclassic Performer Birch Bubinga in Honey Amber Gold is definitely the right choice. It's a hybrid kit, which means that the shells are made of two different kinds of wood. The strong African wood type bubinga emphasises the low end, while the birch provides great attack. This shell set, with its smaller toms and 22-inch bass drum has a rock/fusion configuration.

The toms are 10 x 6.5 and 12 x 7 inches in size, and the kit comes with both a 14 and 16-inch floor tom. The bass drum is what you'd call a 'virgin bass drum', which means it does not have a tom mount. Instead, you get two separate MC69 tom holders. You can attach these to your cymbal stands, which doesn't just allow you more freedom to find the perfect set-up for your kit, but also enhances the resonance of the toms. Besides that, a virgin bass drum provides a more powerful low end. Instead of the common triple-flanged hoops, Tama chose to use zinc die-cast hoops. These hoops don't just create a sharper attack and clear highs, but they also allow for more powerful rimshots and, more importantly, they make sure your tuning stays consistent.

Bass drum

The 22-inch bass drum of this Starclassic Performer kit in Platinum Sparkle is equipped with sturdy claw hooks that have a rubber lining. This lining minimises the chance of the hooks damaging your bass drum hoops. Furthermore, the bass drum legs are Air Cushioned, which means that they have a special air chamber that prevents the sound and sustain of your bass drum from disappearing into the ground, while another advantage is that they are shock absorbing.
