This Custom Shop model from Fender's Time Machine series takes you back to a specific turning point in the history of the Stratocaster, 1963. The original design was modified for an even better playing experience. The alder body was more contoured, and the neck and fretboard were both laminated. The fretboard had classic clay dot position markers. This Custom Shop model is based on a Stratocaster from that period. It has been given a Relic finish, which includes features like characteristic ageing to give it the authentic look of an instrument from the sixties. This includes details like artificial cracks in the nitrocellulose lacquer, for instance. In fact, you get a brand new American Fender; it just looks and sounds like a vintage instrument.

Fender 1963 Relic Stratocaster: construction

The Stratocaster is known for its versatile sound, which is why Fender chose an ash body. This type of wood has a high resonance that gives the guitar its solid, bright tones. The sound is picked up by three Custom Shop '60s single-coils. These pickups are hand wound to make them as close to the originals from the '60s as possible. The middle pickup has reverse polarity to prevent unwanted noise in the intermediate positions. Another showpiece is this instrument's quarter sawn maple neck with mid '60s oval C profile. Thanks to the narrow string nut and narrow jumbo frets, it is very comfortable to play.
