Fender has improved the American Standard Jazz Bass so that it once again sets the standard for all its other bass guitars. This version was fitted with a set of Custom Shop pickups and a beautiful new colour called Jade Pearl Metallic. The American Standard J-Bass was already ahead of other series as it was fitted with modern hardware and neck-construction. The all-new pickups however, complete the picture, making it sound like it should. Of course, the Jazz Bass still features the same elegant asymmetrical alder body and classic '50s looks. This version has a rosewood fretboard that gives it a slightly warmer sound than the one with a maple fretboard.

American Standard Jazz Bass: modern features

Because the clever people at Fender have hidden or disguised this guitar's modern features, it retains its authentic looks. The new Hipshot machine heads look traditional, but weigh 30% less for a better balance. Also, the thicker High Mass Vintage bridge offers more tone and sustain, without compromising its classic looks. The neck of the American Standard is now stronger and more stable than ever, thanks to two Posiflex graphite support rods, so your bass won't fall out of tune due to cold or moisture. The neck's playability of course remains sublime, thanks to its relatively flat 9.5-inch fretboard radius, its satin-finished back and its rolled fretboard edges.

Custom Shop pickups for that famous J-Bass sound

Fender has equipped the American Standard Jazz Bass with Custom Shop '60s pickups. These two alnico 5 single coils provide that classic Jazz Bass sound, but with a dash more output for punchier mids and basses. Both pickups have their own volume control and the master tone will filter out the trebles. You can create a wide range of bass sounds by blending the two volumes, from a fierce bright tone, that'll cut through the mix excellently, to a warm, sultry jazz sound. All in all, this is a versatile bass guitar suitable for virtually any genre whether you like to slap, fingerpick, or go all out with a pick.
