The Electro Voice N/D 868 is a dynamic bass drum microphone. The capsule featured in this N/D 868 is equipped with a neodymium magnet, making it capable of reaching an impressive sound pressure level. This kick drum microphone has a frequency response optimised to that of a bass drum, with a boost around 60 Hz and between 2 and 5 Hz. This provides a warm, deep bass and a clear attack. It also means that you won't need to fuss with extra EQ adjustments on your mixer.

Proximity effect

The low frequency response depends on the distance of the sound source from the microphone. The closer the sound source is, the more bass you're going to hear in the sound. This adds an extra deep layer to your kick drum sound, making it more solid. If you place the microphone close to your drum, the heartier bass response creates a higher output signal. This means that you can turn down the gain on your mixer, which ultimately means that you can get a lot more gain before feedback.
