Synthesizers often come in a black or white housing, but the MicroBrute SE - a tablet-size analogue synth by Arturia - is now, for a limited run, available in three colours. The Arturia MicroBrute SE White Ltd analogue synthesizer is the more traditional of the three - as far as colour is concerned, that is. The MicroBrute SE may be small, but produces a grand sound that will delight analogue synth purists. As a bonus, this special edition of the Arturia MicroBrute comes with four stackable patch cables and a practical gig bag.

Have you ever worked with a subtractive synthesizer? If you have, you’ll have no trouble with the intuitive control panel of the MicroBrute SE. You create a basic sound by choosing from a number of waveforms, including sawtooth and square wave. Each of the oscillators of the MicroBrute SE has an extra (unique) parameter that allows you to enhance that basic sound. Pulse width modulation is at your command, for instance, as is Ultrasaw, a popular feature from the 1990s. Subsequently, you can use the Steiner-Parker multimode filter of the synth to adjust the timbre of your sound by cutting out specific frequency ranges.

Additional possibilities

The fun really starts with the MicroBrute’s modulation matrix, which is operated by means of cables, just like in the old days. The modulation matrix allows you to link the envelope and LFO to parameters such as pitch, filter and the special oscillator functions. An audio input is also at your disposal, so it’s possible to import external signals and use the synthesizer to process them. As a bonus, the limited edition MicroBrute SE comes with a number of stackable patch cables, which allow you to send a signal to several destinations. The icing on the cake is the MicroBrute’s step sequencer. Combined with the CV output you can use it to control vintage synthesizers (provided they support CV).
