The Mapex Armory 529S in Magma Red is a five-piece shell set with six-ply birch and maple shells, for a powerful, clear sound. This rock shell set consists of a 22-inch bass drum, 10 and 12-inch toms, a 16-inch floor tom and the Mapex Tomahawk 14 x 5.5 inch snare drum. The Armory in Magma Red has 45-degree Mapex SONIClear bearing edges. These make sure that the drumheads make better contact with the shell, optimising resonance and tone, ensuring a consistent tuning, and enhancing the tuning range of the drums. The combination of maple and birch in the shells ensures that you get a sublime, rich sound with great resonance. Furthermore, the SONIClear tom mounting system also helps enhance this drum set's excellent tonal properties. This system makes minimal contact with the shells, allowing the toms to resonate freely.

Tomahawk snare and virgin bass drum

Armory shell sets come with the 14 x 5.5-inch Mapex Tomahawk ARST4551CEB snare drum as standard. This snare drum with a 1mm thick shell has a large projection range and accurate response. This snare also has the SONIClear bearing edges, ensuring it produces a clear, loud tone. The bass drum in the Mapex Armory models is what you'd call a 'virgin bass drum', which means it does not have a tom mount. Instead, the shell set comes with tom clamps and tom arms, which allow you to attach your toms to your cymbal stands. This does not just provide you with more freedom to create the perfect set-up, but a virgin bass drum also has a more powerful low end.
