The CP40 stage piano by Yamaha is the little brother of the CP4 and supersedes the popular CP50. Thanks to a sound bank of numerous samples including the CFIIIS concert grand piano, this electronic instrument has a sound that is almost indistinguishable from that of acoustic pianos. The keyboard is pleasant to play with its 88 Graded Hammer keys, and the user interface of the CP40 guarantees you quick and simple navigation. This multi-purpose keyboard can also function as a master keyboard, and in this mode it works as the beating heart of your setup by connecting all of your MIDI instruments via four different zones. All in all, the CP40 is an ideal electric piano whether you're at home, in the studio or on stage, and at only 16 kilograms it's perfect for the travelling musician!

CP40: sample sets and effects

You might notice that when you're playing the CP40 you get the feeling that you're playing an acoustic or electro-mechanical piano. This is because of the advanced SCM (Spectral Component Modeling) technology sound system that uses samples from the CFIIIS concert grand piano along with other classic electric pianos and instruments such as strings, horns and drums. In total, you have no fewer than 297 sounds along with DSP effects, pitch bend and a modulation wheel all at your disposal!Another fun feature of the CP40 is called Duo mode, which lets you cosy up with a friend at the piano by splitting the keyboard into two parts, each with its own middle C. This setting is also great for teachers and students, so they don't have to waste time playing musical chairs during their lessons.

Buttons, sliders and connections

The user interface of the CP40 has been much improved from the CP50 and is now incredibly easy to navigate. Easily create layers and splits in seconds, adjust the volume, fine-tune levels with the 3-band master equalizer and use the data knob to quickly scroll through the menu displayed on the clear backlit LCD screen. Aside from all of these buttons and switches you're also provided with a number of connection points on this instrument including connections for your sustain and expression pedals, MIDI connectivity, line-in, line-out, a headphone jack and USB ports.
