While Flea usually opts for a passive jazz bass for recent Red Hot Chili Peppers material, for older classics, he used an active, humbucker loaded bass. His most iconic early basslines like those on 'Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic' were thundering, fast paced and filled with slap parts. As a tribute, this USA signature solid-body has been developed in collaboration with Fender and is endowed with a fine J bass body and a satin lacquered neck for supple, agile playing, making songs like 'Higher Ground' or 'Give It Away' a pleasure to play.

These are not the only details that elevate the playability of this American-made Jazz bass. The neck profile is a familiar C-type (appealing to many players); the nut width is a slightly narrower 41.15 mm and the fretboard radius starts with a 12 inch curve. All of this aids grip and fluidity. Also, since the compound radius runs gradually to 16 inches, you can bend notes higher than usual, just like Flea. A custom designed Fender humbucker and an 18V Aguilar preamp drive the sound of this Jazz bass and with the volume, bass and treble controls, a balanced and powerful yet natural feeling sound can be sculpted.
