The Gretsch G6118T-LIV in Lotus Ivory and Charcoal Metallic combines the vintage Gretsch sound with a timeless look and modern playing ease. Even though the G6118T seems to hail from the 1950s, it's part of the Gretsch Players Edition series, which was first introduced in 2016. A closer look at the instrument reveals some of its secrets; this guitar has a much slimmer body, for instance. It certainly delivers that Great Gretsch Sound, but modern tone controls add a healthy dose of extra functionality. All in all, the G6118T-LIV is a real player that will charm purists with its great versatility and comfortable feel.

A modern classic

Like the classic Gretsches from the '50s, the G6118T-LIV has a body made of laminated maple and a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard. New features include a secured bridge, a string-thru Bigsby vibrato, Schaller locking tuners and a Graph Tech NuBone TusqXL string nut. It goes without saying that these modern additions hugely benefit this beauty's tuning stability. For that characteristic Gretsch sound, you get two Filter'Tron humbuckers. Warmer and more powerful than single-coil pickups, and more clear than regular humbuckers, they're capable of a decent bite when necessary. To please the eyes as well as the ears, this Players Edition has a Lotus Ivory finish on the front and a Charcoal finish on the back.

Gretsch Players Editions

In 2016, Gretsch introduced two new series that both cater to a specific group of guitarists. The Golden Era Edition series was developed for true purists, while more pragmatic players will prefer the Players Edition models. The Players Edition guitars pay homage to the Gretsch glory days, but incorporate a number of modern modifications into their design. They have a slimmer body, for instance, made possible by Gretsch's innovative 'ML' bracing. This new type of reinforcement ensures that the instruments retain their full hollow-body sound, despite their decreased thickness. Other adjustments that make these Gretsch guitars even eaiers to play include an enhanced string-through Bigsby and a Fender 'no load' circuit.
