Meinl's AE-CAJ3 Artisan cajon is a hand percussion instrument that you sit on when you’re playing it. The instrument originates from Peru, while this particular cajon is hand-made in Spain and conforms to the highest standards. It is a very popular instrument for accompanying other musicians during smaller-scale gigs, which is why it has been gaining popularity.

How it works

The cajon basically is a large sound box that is made of nine plies of birch, with a cedar wood frontplate. Inside the cajon, you will find 10 pre-tuned snare wires that will create a snare-drum like sound, allowing you access to a wide variety of tonal variations. This is amplified by the Internal Bass Filter, which compresses the sound. On the rear, you will find a sound port that allows the sound to escape the body. As mentioned before, the cajon is an instrument that you sit on, and to prevent the bottom from being damaged, that has been fitted with four special rubber feet.
